Stream two new Frightened Rabbit songs, you lucky so-and-sos!

So Frightened Rabbit, who is really awesome, is releasing a single on November 16, and it’s going to be really awesome. I’m super serious, guys! Midnight Organ Fight was one of the best albums of 2008, so my hopes are high for the next album, which is set to come out sometime next year.

FatCat Records has been kind enough to allow everyone to stream the two songs off the single, “Swim Until You Can’t See Land” and “Fun Stuff,” on their website. Right here. Do it. Now.

Weirdly enough, when Lee posted his Frightened Rabbit @ Siren review, he posted an MP3 called “Last Tango in Brooklyn” that he’s had for a while. Turns out it’s been slightly revamped — there’s a bunch more going on, now — and called “Fun Stuff,” which is odd, but I don’t care too much because the song is all sorts of awesome. And “Swim Until You Can’t See Land” seems a bit repetitive, but I still can’t get that damn chorus out of my head.

Go Scotland! Go music! And, uh… Go Terps!

Stream the two songs here.

dude this band is actually pretty good, but indie as a genre is VERY repetitive and mostly very boring. This band, however, is pretty good

You guys should review other music, besides the bland genre of indie…….

Well, “indie” can actually be pretty broad, depending on who you ask. It can encompass the likes of folk, rap, jazz, country, psychedelic and almost any genre, really. Would you consider the afro-pop of The Very Best indie? What about the jazz and classical-inspired work of Sufjan Stevens? Dirty garage rock like Indian Wars ? Hip-hop star Kid Cudi ? (In that vain, we also reviewed Jay-Z’s new album.)
If you do consider all of that “indie,” I think it’s hard to argue that the genre is “bland.” Over the past decade, a lot of similar-sounding music has come out, but much of the “indie” music of late is actually worlds apart and influenced by a variety of different genres. We do post things that easily fall under an umbrella, but I like to think we mix things up a little bit as well.

Please don’t change too much. I like having a this pigion hole to come back to everyday and I feel you stretch my narrow taste in music just fine.
