Phenomenal Video Saturday: DeVotchKa

Welcome, minions, to Phenomenal Video Saturday. I’m using the video I have this week to make a point. A very important one, too.

See, there’s a school of thought out there of people who saw Little Miss Sunshine, a fine film, and latched onto DeVotchKa‘s “How it Ends,” the song that begins the movie. The film version doesn’t bother with the vocals, and also chops off about 3 or 4 minutes, skipping the deliberate buildup between verses and choruses and heading right to the beautiful, violin-drenched climax.

So here’s a live performance of the original version, by DeVotchKa. It’s not perfect, but it still captures what I think is the superior arrangement of the song. And when I think something, you know it’s gotta be right. Right?
