12 Days of Christmas Music: The Hotel Cafe’s “Winter Songs” Compilation

Winter SongsLA music venue The Hotel Cafe put out a holiday compilation this year called “Winter Songs.” Since The Hotel Cafe focuses on female singer/songwriters, the album is solely that. All your favorite women of music like KT Tunstall, Ingrid Michaelson, Fiona Apple and Katy Perry (singer/songwriter? Really?) are there giving you soft snowy goodness. I feel inspired already.

Fifty cents from each purchase of the album in CD form will go to Susan G. Komen for the cure (breast cancer). Sixty cents from each download of the medley of “Auld Lang Syne” (an old Scottish folk song), which appears on the album, will also go to the cause. They couldn’t have made it any more confusing.

The compilation is pretty good unless you hate female singer/songwriters (a surprising number of people I know actually), in which case you will hate this completely and I will call you a SCROOGE. Meiko’s “Maybe Next Year” is all kinds of sassy and soultry (it makes me a little afraid to be honest), which is completely juxtaposed with softer songs like the title track, “Winter Song.” You can get all the info on where to buy it, etc. at The Hotel Cafe website.

Meiko – “Maybe Next Year (X-Mas Song)” (MP3)

Sara Bareilles & Ingrid Michaelson – “Winter Song” (MP3)

Katy Perry – “White Christmas” (MP3)
