Back in 2002, our favorite Scottish band Belle & Sebastian recorded a Christmas set for some kind of party thrown by John Peel. What exists of it is a bootleg recording that puts other bootlegs to shame. The quality is awesome and the band is too. They play a bunch of holiday classics as well as songs I’ve never heard of (so they may or may not be originals). One of their covers is “Santa Claus” by The Sonics, which if you remember I posted about a few days ago. They also do a great version of Elvis’ “Santa Bring My Baby Back To Me.”
I think one of the cool things about this recording is that it gives you a look into a supercool holiday party. It’s like actually being there! Although they don’t play exclusively Christmas songs, B&S give some cool different versions of ones you might already have. Who doesn’t like variety?
