Knox Road’s Top Albums of 2013

Knox Road Top Albums 2013

Another year, another top albums list (some things changed, though — we turned 5 years old!). We asked Knox Road writers to provide their Top Albums of 2013. You know what ensued. Tears, laughter, debate. Actually not much of any of those. Just heartfelt thoughts. If these lists make you listen to one new album, it was all worth it. Have a happy holiday season and stay warm.

Beatenberg

Recently, a friend of mine introduced me to a website called Miss Moss. Its subhead calls the blog a “compendium of radness,” and indeed it is. While I’m not very into the sections on art and fashion, the blog’s founder, Diana, is a bit of a playlist-ologist. I’ve spent hours browsing through her […]

Vampire Weekend vs. their own album cover

Kudos to Pitchfork for picking up on this Vanity Fair article about the woman who appears on the cover of Vampire Weekend’s top-selling album, Contra, and is suing pretty much everybody over it. The polaroid of a blonde-haired blue-eyed girl from the 80s is maybe one of the most memorable album covers of […]

[MP3] M.I.A. vs Vampire Weekend: "Giving Up The Sunshowers"

As if we need more indie/pop mashups (hint: we do), The Hood Internet has pit M.I.A.’s “Sunshowers” against Vampire Weekend’s “Giving Up The Gun,” in a wonderful little pop-friendly tune. Granted, this is no “No One Womanizes Like You,” but it’s still great. In this post-Girl Talk world*, it’s rare to find good […]

Vampire Weekend's Contra is a perfect sophomore effort

I like to laugh at the weirdo middle school girls swept up in the “Team Jacob” vs. “Team Whoever” thing from Twilight. Stupid petty book rivalries! But then I look to the reception of Vampire Weekend’s 2008 self-titled album and the two contentious camps that developed there: “Team Vampire Weekend Is Awesome” and […]

[MP3] Vampire Weekend: “White Sky”

MOREMOREMORE new Vampire Weekend?? Ok guys, let’s save it for the album release already. “White Sky” has been a staple in their live shows for a while, so I guess it’s not particularly “new” for those hip on VW’s every move. For the rest of us, it’s the latest leak from the band’s […]

Vampire Weekend release video for new single “Cousins”

Vampire Weekend is back, everybody! They’re going to be releasing the first big album of the new decade, Contra, on January 12, but for now they’re teasing the eager fans with singles. We first heard the softer side with “Horchata,” a pretty good little song. And now we have the faster-paced “Cousins.” […]

Peter Gabriel and Hot Chip Cover Vampire Weekend

Peter Gabriel just recorded a cover of Vampire Weekend’s “Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa” with Hot Chip. It’s funny because one of the lines of the chorus is “It feels so unnatural, Peter Gabriel too.” Ha! How does the Genesis front man handle singing his own name? Well, you’ll just have to listen and […]

More concert info: Illinois and Yeasayer

Two more local concerts I think you should all be aware of. I know it’s a busy time of year, what between Thanksgiving and the new year, but if you have time try to check out one of these groups (especially Illinois on Tuesday if you didn’t get Vampire Weekend tickets).

December 2: […]
