Cold Country

He knew he was done. He hadn’t been doing quality work in a while, and frankly he didn’t care. He was going to head home to his parents, who at this point woke up at 4 am, tended to the garden, read the newspaper, left the stove top on all day in case something needed to be cooked up right away, and went back to bed at 5:30 pm. The loss of his corporate life led directly to a newfound respect for home. The intricacies of the neighborhood, with the Subarus and SUVs and rhododendrons lining the streets. Kids playing in the dead end roundabouts. Familiarity breeds happiness, not contempt.
