Knox Road partners with new label Walk-In Records; Magic City first signed artist

I’ve been hinting at some KR news these past few weeks, and now it’s coming to you live. We at Knox Road have teamed up with a new label, Walk-In Records, and we couldn’t be more excited.

What does this “partnership” mean, exactly? Well, Jamie and I can sit on our laurels and do nothing administrative while the hard working crew over at Walk-In Records takes care of business. I’m only slightly joking, but it is pretty much pretty sweet. We’ll be helping to promote Walk-In Records’ artists (if we enjoy them — which we will, of course. I’ll get to that in a minute.) and they’ll cross-promote Knox Road posts and the like. We’ll also have contact page exchanges and other fancy stuff. The two are inextricably linked, but each will operate as its own entity, teaming up when necessary.

So, how do we know we’ll enjoy Walk-In Records artists? Hmm. I guess I should provide full disclosure at this point. Jesse Croom is the man behind the record label, and he is also a frequent Knox Road contributor. We originally asked him to contribute to the site because his music tastes aligned with ours (not to mention he was way more cultured). There’s not much to make us think things will change with a record label (unless, you know, he becomes so huge he’s one of the BAD GUYS.). In order to ensure fairness to all parties involved (including you, our readers), any time we discuss a Walk-In records artist we will make it quite clear. We also will not be “reviewing” any Walk-In Records albums. Yes, of course it’s an endorsement to post an mp3, but…that’s what’s supposed to happen if we like music.

The idea of the partnership and collaboration is essentially to produce and maintain synergy among different sectors of the music industry. Do we think there should be varying opinions in music? Of course! But we know that a more connected industry means a more connected fan/artist base means a more enjoyable way of listening to/submitting music for everyone involved. Things happen with collaborations. It’s a lot easier to work with others than to work alone. While we know we aren’t the first blog to be linked with a label, we do think keeping the two as separate operations will help both grow to their fullest abilities. So follow Walk-In Records on TwitterFacebook and Tumblr, and help spread the word (if you’re so inclined)!

To that end, please enjoy Walk-In Records’ first signee, Chicago’s Magic City, about whom we have previously posted on Knox Road.
