Mixery for exfm at Cantora Labs’ CMJ Smartlounge

It’s not my typical mixery, but it’ll do. No random songs this time – they’re actually of my choosing! I know, crazy concept.

Let’s get to the point. I was recently asked, along with a few esteemed music blogs and KR friends, to curate a little playlist for exfm at Cantora Labs’ Smartlounge at CMJ. So, below you’ll find five songs from a few of my favorite artists performing at CMJ this year. There are several other acts I love and want to see – this is by no means a comprehensive or exclusive list of bands’ shows I am anticipating. But I need to start somewhere, of course, and most bands here are of the lesser known variety (i.e. not the Zola Jesuses – who I love – of the world). The list would be way too long if I added an extra piece and included everyone I like.

I went with a slightly more upbeat playlist than usual, considering I’m making this for an event and all. If you read KR often, you probably won’t be too surprised by the picks.

Jonquil – “Get Up” [MP3] Bandcamp

Hands – “Hold” [MP3] Bandcamp

Emperor X – “A Violent Translation of the Concordia Headscarp” [MP3] Tumblr

Snowmine – “The Hill” [MP3] Bandcamp

Washington – “How To Tame Lions” [MP3] Website

The blogs “DJing” with us for the event (making the playlist) are Stadiums & Shrines, I Guess I’m Floating, Listen Before You Buy and Gimme Tinnitus.
