Notable Album Release: Mount Moriah (s/t)

Mount Moriah, a duo out of North Carolina, is ready to burst out of the gates with a fever. Their self-titled debut LP is full of experienced collaborators, including members of Megafaun, Gayngs, St. Vincent, Bowerbirds, and more. If ever an album was primed for experimental folk pop success, it’s Mount Moriah’s Mount Moriah.

It’s not just names here, though, as the duo of Heather McEntire and Jenks Miller are perfectly adept themselves, as is apparent from “Lament,” the promo single off the album. McEntire has a nice folk twang to her voice, and the sound is rounded out with teeming harmonies, hand claps, and a simple, steady beat.

Oh, and uh, John Darnielle had this to say about McEntire: “I think you don’t see a stage presence like Heather McEntire’s more than a few times in your life. She’s unbelievable.”

Mount Moriah is set to be released May 3, 2011 via Holidays for Quince Records.
