While I’m not entirely sold on their first single (uh oh, did I actually start off a post with some slight negative words? blogging no-no!), any band opening for The Radio Dept. deserves my attention (Knitting Factory, November 30).
High Highs are a relatively new group from New York and clearly have a promising future in front of them. They’ve apparently been getting some major play with buzz-y artists, and elements of their music make me sense their impending popularity. A blend of bells and quirky vocals (which could use a bit more polish and a bit less nasal) creates a memorable, warm sound. The oooh oooh harmonies don’t hurt, either.
this such is a lovely, toe-tappy track. for the record, i hate you for going to the aforementioned show. can you believe, with or without high highs, the radio dept. had the audacity to schedule their dc gig after we leave? well i never…!

Sounds like something on Wes Anderson’s “use in a soundtrack” list.
