MGMT’s video for “Congratulations” tells us where stars are born

I think I’m getting used to MGMT videos now. Are they weird, odd, against the grain? Yes. But does that make them bad or unwatchable? Never! I’m sure they represent things that are very deep and meaningful! And visually they’re always interesting and unique! In this one we have our familiar heros traveling through […]

[MP3] Kurran and the Wolfnotes: “Your Four Limbs”

Nothing like a catchy, British pop rock ditty to get you going on a dreary day. I add British because come on, they typically capture the indie rock sound way better than Americans. Don’t deny the truth!

Kurran and the Wolfnotes will officially release “Your Four Limbs” September 13, as a single on […]

[MP3] Eagle Winged Palace: “Movin’ On To Avalon”

Weird music is all the craze these days, ya know? But what does “weird” actually mean, if everything we’re listening to is “weird”? Something different? Straying entirely from the mainstream? So then, what becomes the mainstream, at least in indie music? So many questions, I know (and most are questions several of you […]

In Case You Missed It: Week In Review

Two sad-face days this week? Step up your game Knox Road! Guys, I know I’ve been promising increased, back-to-normal postage soon, and that WILL happen. But for now you gotta ride the wave with us and be happy with, on average, a post a day. On those days we don’t post, get your […]

Hey everyone, let’s stream the brand new out-of-nowhere Sufjan Stevens EP

Sufjan Stevens EP, what?? I don’t know, took me by surprise too. I really don’t have anything to say at the moment, I’m stunned into silence. It’s called All Delighted People, and it’s available for streaming and $5 purchase on the not-quite-prolific artist’s bandcamp.

Take a sneaky peek below. I’m personally only about […]

Little Gold

Little Gold, a trio out of Brooklyn, was formed by former Woods member, Christian DeRoeck, and recently released a 7″ on Heart Break Records last month. In support of the 7″ they’re touring all over the place (dates listed after the jump), so if you’re in one of those hot spots, check out what this rising band has to offer.

What jumps out immediately upon first listen to Little Gold are its older pop influences, hearkening back to easier, more familiar times. Catchy harmonies and simple guitar lines put a great deal of fun into the music, sparking the noticeable excitement in the band members’ sound.

[Stream] Justin Bieber’s 35-minute ambient opus

Can you believe this is going to be my second post mentioning Justin Bieber on Knox Road? I have good reason, I promise. But I didn’t want to actually post a picture of him, considering our site’s no-robots policy, so here’s an adorable puppy.

Anyway, onto the content. Have you ever said to yourself, […]

[MP3s] Lucy Schwartz: “Rain City” + “Graveyard”

Lucy Schwartz was recently crowned with KCRW’s top tune for “Rain City”, a track off her forthcoming full length, Life In Letters. In case you forget, Schwartz is a mere 20 years of age, and is already making (/has made) major strides in the industry. She’s helped to score films and has been featured twice before here on Knox Road (obviously making her a SUPERSTAR.)

“Rain City” shows off Schwartz’s sultry, mature vocals for a woman of her age, as they deeply resonate with the backing piano. Also, those overlayed harmonies at the end of the song are precious, and one of those songwriting techniques I never fail to enjoy. You can pick up “Graveyard” as well for free (after the jump) in exchange for your email address.

In Case You Missed It: Week In Review

Trying to get things back in order here lately as we’re all up to no good outside the blog. (Like, um, moving, looking for jobs, getting sick, and lots of other crazy party animal type shenanigans!) Thanks for sticking around, hopefully you caught some enjoyable music this week while finally cooling off with […]

Phenomenal Video Saturday: The Swell Season covers Neutral Milk Hotel

I’ve been a fan of the A.V. Club Undercover series for months now, and I feel like it hasn’t really caught on like it should, considering the incredible quality of a couple of entries. The premise is some artist or band comes in to the publication’s office and covers another song they chose from […]
