Seeing LCD Soundsystem open for Arcade Fire in New Jersey years ago is still probably one of the best shows I’ve seen (also on the lineup that day? Les Savy Fav and Blonde Redhead). James Murphy brings so much energy to his songs, and makes even the most repetitive structures seem exciting. The fact that he recreates all his sounds with live instruments is icing.
This video is from this year’s Bonnaroo festival. It’s of “Drunk Girls,” a polarizing song from the band’s latest, This is Happening. I chose it because even if you don’t like the song (I don’t much, myself), the band can make it sound like it’s the best damn thing ever. Kudos, Mr. Murphy.
