Phenomenal Video Saturday: The National. On Letterman. Thursday.

Being the news-craving, mile-a-minute journalist I am, I just need to be on the cutting edge of everything going on in the world. So I know that there’s, like, an oil spill or whatever, and a bomb in Times Square, or something, and OMGZ THE NATIONAL ON LETTERMAN! I don’t know about you guys, but I definitely have my priorities in order.

On Thursday, The National barnstormed Letterman with a stunning performance of “Afraid of Everyone.” And it was stunning — yep, objectively — even though I am a total fanboy. Seriously, from the harmonium (Dave: “What is that thing? … It’s very effective”), to the awesome quasi-guitar solo halfway through, to Matt Berninger’s screams at the end, to the Sufjan Stevens background vocals — that’s right, Sufjan Stevens was there, looking awkward and doing not much more than going “Ahhh….oooohh” — was great. My god, there is nothing not good about this.
