Jeff Mangum makes another rare appearance; plays songs

For the uninitiated, Jeff Mangum was the force behind indie tastemaker Neutral Milk Hotel, a band that hasn’t released an album since a little before the turn of the century. Learn more about Mangum in Woefully Uninformed Weekly.

Yesterday Mangum performed a few songs, including “Oh Comely” and “Two Headed Boy Pt. 2” at a benefit for New Zealand punk Chris Knox (tie-in!). The track were all created in the ’90s, which is starting to feel weird, but they’re solid performances nonetheless. It’s good to hear that craggly voice again, even if it’s not quite singing anything new. But we can hope.
