[MP3] Mexican Summer revives 1970s Brit psych with Ramases' "Balloon"

Gorilla vs. Bear just posted some new tracks sent over by super label Mexican Summer (feeling a little snubbed over here) and one of the more interesting tracks was “Balloon” by Ramases. Now, if you’re not up on your 1970s British pop/rock/psychedelia (I wasn’t), you might not know that “Balloon” is actually a single from the Ramases’ (aka Martin Raphael) 1971 album Space Hymns. The album gained some hype in England and Germany and the mysterious artist even released a follow-up album, Glass Top Coffin, in 1975. But after some displeasure with his label, Ramases has since faded into obscurity.

Based on their inclusion of the song with “upcoming releases,” it would seem that Mexican Summer might be reissuing Ramases’ work, or at very least Space Hymns, but who knows! Maybe they found the single and they just like it. I know I like it. We all like it. You should like it too. LIKE IT.
