New demo from Matt Kanelos

Matt Kanelos and his band The Smooth Maria (emphasis on “Mar” as in MARia) have been up to big things lately, including a feature spot on ABC’s Private Practice (with the song “What You’re Supposed To Do”). I actually received quite a few happy remarks from friends (including my sister!) after they heard the song on the show and remembered him from here. That makes me so happy, really – Kanelos has been incredibly kind to us at Knox Road, and I wish him nothing but the best.

Continuing with that kindness, Kanelos sent over a new, very rough demo, titled “Wonderland” (which Kanelos put together on his own) and will likely be included on The Smooth Maria’s next full-length, tentatively due in early 2011. In the meantime, The Smooth Maria is trying a little experiment, recording four songs in Kanelos’s apartment. And if they like the results, they may release it as an EP (so, let’s hope they like the results eh?). I need my fix of minimal piano pop; this dream pop fad is all well and good, but it’s wearing me out.

The Smooth Maria are looking to tour the Northeast in the near future (as well as hitting up D.C.), so we will certainly keep you updated either on our twitter or here.
