[MP3] Wakey!Wakey!: "Twenty Two"

One of my new favorite singer/songwriters, Michael Grubbs (Wakey!Wakey!), has made available the first single (thanks Amie Street!) off his forthcoming, sophomore LP, Almost Everything I Wish I’d Said The Last Time I Saw You. He’s another artist blurring the lines between indie and mainstream (let’s give another ’round of applause to Rachael Maddux at Paste), but I like his music regardless, so whatever. He’s been featured on One Tree Hill as a recurring cast member after the crew liked him so much, so I don’t think he’ll have much of a problem making a name for himself (see Kate Voegele). That being said, the music stands on it’s own. Sometimes deeply heartfelt, othertimes fun and poppy (“Twenty Two” leans toward the latter), Wakey!Wakey! has the makings for the big-time. Grubbs is also an incredibly talented pianist, and it shows in Wakey!Wakey!’s sound.
