[Off My Radar] The Underwater Peoples Summertime Showcase

[Ed. Note: A lot of music comes out in a given year. I’m busy, ok? I don’t have all the time in the world to hear everything released and tell you about it. So I’ve decided to go back and visit all the great music that was, clearly, just off my radar.]

This one is just 100 percent my bad. Underwater Peoples sent us their Summertime Showcase CD in, well, summer, and I just didn’t get around to listening until, well, fall. Label this one: Fell Off And Then Jumped Back In A Big Way Onto My Radar. Very much >.<. The D.C.-based label boasts an impressive roster with the likes of Real Estate, Ducktails, Julian Lynch and Alex Bleeker.

Their Summertime Showcase compilation is a wonderful look at the almost-lo-fi, dreamscape, art-pop that the label seems to draw so well. Standout tracks include “Beach Comber” and “Snow (Instrumental)” by Real Estate, and “Wishing Whale” by Pill Wonder. But the absolute gem on the compilation is “Mega Secrets” by Family Portrait. That’s not to say the whole thing isn’t great, because it’s awesome. It’s perfect for a 2009 summer pool party 2010 “I Wish It Was Summer” pool party.

You can still buy the compilation over at the Underwater Peoples store, and I highly recommend that you do.
