File in the “awesome” category: Shearwater just provided us with a new mp3 off their forthcoming sixth full-length, The Golden Archipelago. Created as a side project of Okkervil River members Will Sheff and Jonathan Meiburg, Shearwater is a heavier, folksier version of Okkervil River. Imagine that. Meiburg’s vocals are a standout on Shearwater’s stunningly evocative sound, and he seems to be sticking to his background with nature on The Golden Archipelago.
Yet another album to look forward to in early 2010. Things are looking up for next year – and soon. The Golden Archipelago drops February 15 (February 23 in the U.S.) on Matador.
