Notable Album Release: Field Music – Measure

Field Music

Field Music, one of my favorite straight-up playful (though that adjective may need to change now) pop bands out there, is set to release an upcoming “double” album, Measure, February 16. I found out about the British brothers several years ago from 3hive and was immediately smitten by their delightful song, “You’re So Pretty”. However, after their release of 2007’s Tones of Town, Peter and David Brewis put Field Music on indefinite hiatus and went on to work for various other projects (mostly solo.) So I’m obviously quite excited to hear about news of an impending album, and even more enthusiastic than ever, as the Brewis bros have added Kev Dosdale (guitar and keys) and Ian Black (bass).

It’s already apparent from the first single off Measure that Field Music have not only made additions to the group, but also to the sound. The track, appropriately titled “Measure”, displays an orchestral and lush tone from the beginning chords. Strings play a major role, and the arrangement is more complex than anything Field Music has approached before.
