iTunes Mixery

Here we go again (sorry it’s been so long!) For those who don’t know, this is iTunes Mixery part siete. Here’s how it goes: I play iTunes on shuffle -> tell you which song comes up -> provide the mp3 and a tidbit -> continue until five songs and embarrassment are complete. See my previous “mixeries” at the bottom of the post. Again, nothing’s off-limits – I don’t “fix the mix”. Have a look into my life…

  1. Nada Surf – “Amateur” [MP3] (from The Proximity Effect). This is back when Nada Surf sounded kind of like Weezer. Not one of my favorites of theirs by any means, but shows their talent for melodic pop-driven rock. Don’t be afraid to sing oooh oooooh ooh along with the Nada boys.
  2. Erin McCarley – “Pony” [MP3] (from Love, Save the Empty). Sound familiar? Yes? Wonderful, you do read the blog! I’ve featured “Pony” before on KR. This pretty much sums up how I feel about the lovely Ms. McCarley.
  3. The Real Tuesday Weld – “It’s a Wonderful Li(f)e” [MP3] (from The London Book of the Dead). A slow-paced jazzy pop song, these Brits were probably introduced to Americans’ ears (well, at least mine) from their blissful (sound-wise) track, “Last Words,” featured on the unfortunately awful Nick and Nora’s Infinite Playlist.
  4. Letting Up Despite Great Faults – “If You’re Here Today” [MP3] (from Hide. Pretend.). Another song I’ve featured before, and a band I’ve written about often. Gorgeously atmospheric electronica. Here’s a starter’s guide if you don’t know ’em and a more recent post about their newest album.
  5. Magnet – “Hold On” [MP3] (from The Tourniquet). A nice mix of synths, soft, yet powerful vocals, and smooth percussion from Norway’s Even Johansen.

the only song worse than “amateur” on that nada surf album is “bacardi”. the only line I remember is

“you’reeeeee at the party, drunk on bacardiiiiii”

    and that’s enough.

  • That Erin McCarley song is great. I’ll definitely be checking out more from her!
