[MP3] Sufjan Stevens: “Movement VI—Isorhythmic Night Dance with Interchanges”

Sufjan stevens The BQE

New Sufjan? Could it be true? Yes, it could. And it is! It’s the first fresh material we’ve seen from the absurdly talented Detroit singer-songwriter since last year’s “You Are The Blood” for the Dark Was The Night compilation. Now Sufjan has recorded a cinematic suite inspired by the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway titled The BQE. Yes, that means there’s also a movie.

The project was commissioned by the Brooklyn Academy of Music and originally performed in October, 2007. So Sufjan’s been sitting on this one for a while. While it probably won’t woo the commercial listener as well as his more conventional material, the album still shows remarkable talent. His first released single is “Movement VI—Isorhythmic Night Dance with Interchanges.” The album is due out October 20 on Asthmatic Kitty.
