Despite the unfortunately long title, I still find myself looking forward to A retrospective 1998-2008 or i was a christian emo twentysomething from Lackthereof, the solo project of Menomena’s Danny Seim. He has worked on his Lackthereof electronic pop craft throughout his Menomena tenure, as well as polished some of his previous material from way before the Menomena days. If the way before Menomena part isn’t apparent upon reading the Lackthereof album title then you should probably rethink the esteem to which you hold yourself. Because…eh, I don’t need to explain.
A retrospective… is scheduled to drop October 13 on Barsuk and contains 20 of Seim’s best Lackthereof songs. So color me plenty excited – this type of material is essentially everything I love about Menomena, just toned down a bit, which makes for much more intimate experimental pieces to go with Seim’s yearning voice.
