Australia’s The Grates will be playing Pianos Residency in Manhattan (Lower East Side) TOMORROW (7/14). You may not expect them to be my cup of tea, but then consider that the trio (two girls, one guy) meshes so many different sounds together – I feel like I’m listening to the Yeah Yeah Yeah’s and Cold War Kids combined. The harmonies never disappoint, and their rock sensibilities should make for one hell of a concert, much less a show in that intimate space of Pianos. Tickets here! (…Or just get one there.) ah I love the grates! so sad I missed it but so busy with work…craziness…. Holly Throsby played at the Rockwood last month and I missed that too..I keep missing all the amazing Aussies! (though I did manage to see Ben Lee in May)

sigh – we were 2 aussies over for a holiday and just happened to see this advertised but couldn’t get tickets… they are supremely infectious, with both qwerky but unforgetable hooks and patience’s (lead vocals) habit of jumping means that it’s always very energetic….
