Michael Jackson went into cardiac arrest

EDIT: According to the LA Times, Michael Jackson has died.

Pop star Michael Jackson was pronounced dead by doctors this afternoon after arriving at a hospital in a deep coma, city and law enforcement sources told The Times.

The primary news source here is tenuous – TMZ – but it has been confirmed by CNN.com that Michael Jackson went into cardiac arrest this afternoon and was taken to the hospital for further treatment.

TMZ has gone all morbid on us, but I’m not fully believing it’s over until it hits the major, reputable news outlets.

If he’s gone, though, it’s a shame to lose one of the most influential pop artists of all time.
