Right on the heels of The Decemberists’ excellent take on Heart’s “Crazy on You” from a few days ago, we have an episode of Off The Beaten Tracks which finds Frightened Rabbit singer Scott Hutchinson covering Neutral Milk Hotel’s “Song Against Sex.” The song certainly isn’t the same without its near-gratuitous distortion and trumpet parts, but Hutchinson does his darnedest. He even lifts his voice up at a few times to that strained Jeff Mangum yell. All in all, I’d say a successful cover, if mostly based on the out-of-left-field-ness of it.
Can the next crazy cover be The Hold Steady covering Mountain Goats? Please? I mean, I know it seems super unlikely, but – oh.
