The super lame 2009 Webby Awards

tay_full

The nominees for the 2009 Webby Awards are out, you guys! And they’re SO mostly irrelevant. They don’t have a music blog category (lame) but I’m sure KR would have topped that list (lie)! Their music website award is between 8tracks (guh?), Moshcam (actually kind of cool), Nonesuch Records (record label?), NPR Music (umm NPR) and Pitchfork (nomination a few years too late).

There are like, a million website and web video/advertising nominees for a million different awards (see them here), all probably chosen by middle aged people who twitter all the time and laugh about Lots of Love cats. Some nomination highlights after the jump. [“Lots of Love” via Videogum]

Best Humor Website

  • 23/6
  • FAIL Blog
  • Indecision 2008
  • South Park Studios
  • The Onion

What should win: The Onion. It’s relatively fresh, not an offshoot of the Huffington Post, and something with a lot of content unique to the internet.

What will win: Indecision 2008, because middle-aged people love politics and that Jon Stewart guy.

Best Music Website

  • 8tracks
  • Moshcam
  • Nonesuch Records
  • NPR Music
  • Pitchfork

What should win: Pitchfork. I know they’re evil because they gave your new favorite new album a 3.6, but they’ve kind of been important and kind of had this coming.

What will win: Pitchfork. Founder Ryan Schreiber is up for Time’s most influential people of 2009, and that won’t be overlooked.

  • Oasis: Dig Out Your Soul In The Streets
  • Ode To Joy (done by Beaker of The Muppet Show)
  • Pitchfork TV
  • NPR’s Project Song
  • The Black Cab Sessions

What should win: NPR’s Project Song. It’s a very good idea, and they executed it. I’m pretty sure that’s all that’s required here.

What will win: NPR’s Project Song. It just makes sense.

Best Viral Video

  • Bill O’Reilly Flips Out – DANCE REMIX
  • Shiba Inu Live Puppy Cam
  • The Website is Down: Sales Guy VS. Web Dude
  • Wassup 2008
  • Where The Hell Is Matt (2008)

What should win: The Shiba Inu Live Puppy Cam. Because it’s adorable. Also because “The Website is Down” is terrible, “Wassup 2008” is “Wassup 2008” and “Where the hell is Matt” is on its second go around and kind of cheesy now. Also because it’s better than that Bill O’Reilly thing. Seriously, these nominees (sans the puppy cam) are awful.

What will win: Where The Hell Is Matt (2008). Because your mom loves it and forwarded to you and all her friends.
