This week in concerts: We Are Scientists, Friendly Fires, Say Hi, etc.

friendly fires

It’s a firestorm of concerts in the D.C./Baltimore area this week and by firestorm I mean there will be a lot of solid acts coming. Lets go through the highlights, shall we?

Tuesday: Friendly Fires w/ White Lies

Both acts are pretty much big deals and will be on The Black Cat’s mainstage Tuesday night. They’re playing with The Soft Pack who I know nothing about. Myspace tells me they come from San Diego. Cool! (??) Dark and soft are two adjectives that come to mind here. Tickets

Friendly Fires – “In The Hospital” [MP3]

Wednesday: Glasvegas, Say Hi & Telekinesis

Because Wednesdays are always bizarre days for concerts (I’ve just decided), Glasvegas, Say Hi and Telekinesis are all playing at The Black Cat but are split between two shows. Glasvegas is playing Ida Maria at 8:00 on the Mainstage, while Say Hi, Telekinesis and Anni Rossi are playing the backstage at 9:00. Pick and choose, win or lose as Gorillaz always says. Tickets

Glasvegas – “Geraldine” [MP3]

Say Hi – “Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh” [MP3]

Telekinesis – “Coast of Carolina” [MP3]

Friday: Deer Tick, Phospherescent, Asobi Seksu and Blind Pilot

If you want good live music on your Friday night (who doesn’t?) you have a lot of choices. Lets start in Baltimore. At the Ottobar you’ll find cute dreamy weirdo Asobi Seksu playing with Detroit weirdos Tyvjk. Judging by Tyvjk’s music on their Myspace it should be an interesting energetic/soft/weird show. 21+ Tickets

At Baltimore’s Gspot, Deer Tick and Phosphorescent will put on a show that will surely be worth seeing. I couldn’t find anything about tickets (the official website isn’t even working) sooo just show up??

If you’re sick of Baltimore by now (or just sick of parking there, OOOHHH!!) you can run down to Virginia and check out Blind Pilot at Iota in Arlington. The city is metro accessible and the band is all kinds of amazing. They’re playing with Ezra Furman & the Harpoons. This show will be SO folk. The show is 21+ and tickets are at the door.

Asobi Seksu – “Me & Mary” [MP3]

Deer Tick – “Art Isn’t Real (City of Sin)” [MP3]

Blind Pilot – “Go On, Say It” [MP3]

Sunday: We Are Scientists

Yes, We Are Scientists is coming to the Hard Rock Cafe in D.C. You know what that means! It means they’re coming and it will probably be good. I saw them once and it was indeed good. If $15 tickets isn’t good enough for you, you can always buy the $75 VIP treatment which includes 2 tickets, a meet and greet and a signed CD. Because WAS are now the Jonas Brothers. Tickets
