Mp3s of some SXSW artists, part two

great-northern

More performers (can’t include everyone) at SXSW I’m excited about.

After A-E yesterday, today I work F-J. To be continued further this week. Enjoy!

  • The Features – “The Drawing Board” [MP3] The Nashville, TN fellows will be releasing their sophomore full-length Some Kind of Salvation in May.
  • Fives Times August – “Beautiful Girls” [MP3] I used to be way into this Dallas, TX singer/songwriter back in the day but then didn’t hear anything from him. Nice to see he’s still doing his thing. BTW: “Wherever” (by Five Times August) to be featured in a March 2009 movie starring Sarah Michelle Gellar, and will be included on the soundtrack with Coldplay and Radiohead. ??
  • The Forms – “Red Gun” [MP3] Alternative, catchy, guitar-riffing Brooklyn group. This song is very Pinback-ish. That’s a good thing.
  • Futurecop! – “Nasa” [MP3] Electronic duo from The UK with slow build-ups. For fans of Ratatat.
  • The Gala Band – James [MP3] UK folk troupe with pretty female vocals. New album expected to be released early next year.
  • GoldieLocks – Cold Sweat [MP3] Yes, I am putting an artist named GoldieLocks on this list. Maybe because’s shes awesome being oh, 75% English and 25% Swedish. This UK rapper/singer arrives at a perfect time with similar acts (MIA, Lily Allen, Kate Nash) hot on the scene.
  • Great Northern – “Houses” [MP3] This fast-growing duo from LA is ready to rock Austin with their anthemic pop.
  • Lisa Hannigan – “Lille” [MP3] Oh, Lisa. She of Damien Rice glory has her own natural Irish beauty.
  • The High Dials – “Killer of Dragons” [MP3] Handclaps, psycheledica, the Montreal works.
  • Matt Hires – “Honey, Let Me Sing You A Song” [MP3] Didn’t have this Tampa, FL singer/songwriter on the list originally, but, thanks to AWmusic, I found Mr. Hires, wonderful vocals and all.
  • Ben Jelen – “Ex-Sensitive” [MP3] Good ol’ New Yorker Ben Jelen’s around, ladies and gentleman. This song is a different style from the typical fare you may have been accustomed to from him. There’s some New Pornographers / Polyphonic Spree sound here. A bit surprising.
