iTunes Mixery

So I’m gonna play a little game with you (I got the idea from a friend over at Silly Pipe Dreams, who now writes for the FX comedy “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia”). This is what happens: I press play on iTunes, and then tell you which 5 songs show up and provide a little tidbit and the mp3 (most of the time). Judging is allowed. Here’s hoping I don’t embarrass myself. I promise I won’t cheat.

  1. Bodies of Water – “Our Friends Appear Like the Dawn” (from Ears Will Pop & Eyes Will Blink). Did not make my year-end list, but one of my favorite bands from ’08 who quickly gained ground on everyone’s radar with shimmery multi-layered pop.
  2. The Roots – “Don’t Say Nuthin” (from The Tipping Point) We haven’t posted much rap here at Knox Road, but that doesn’t mean we don’t like it. The Roots are one of my favorites.
  3. Systems Officer – “Forever This Cyanide” (from the Systems Officer EP) Zach from Pinback’s side project. Very much like Pinback. A couple real gems on this album, especially “Hael”.
  4. Jesca Hoop – “Intelligentactile 101” (from Kismet) Quirky, yet charming pop ditty. Gets real catchy with the chorus. A recommended artist. Also, Hoop was the nanny for Tom Waits’ children. Pretty Sweet.
  5. We Are Scientists – “Worth The Wait” (from With Love and Squalor) Not one of my favorites from this album, but not bad nonetheless. Just a bit too whiny for my taste. I do enjoy We Are Scientists in general though.

Whew. That wasn’t so bad. No Lindsay Lohan in sight…
