Marching Band

Wow. From out of nowhere (well, actually, thanks to Heartache with Hardwork for the heads up), Marching Band, a duo (Erik Sunbring and Jacob Lind) from Sweden, has swept me off my feet. Disclaimer: I love just about any music the Swedes put out there. They have a secret recipe for indie pop goodness that many have been trying to get their hands on for years (…Bob). When you have a guy named José González and he’s a Swede, that’s when you know you’ve hit the big time. Good for you Sweden, good for you.

Marching Band came out with their first full-length album, Spark Large, this past August and earned a solid fan base. As only two guys with an unusual mix of xylophone, marimba, banjo, and vibraphone along with the usual guitar and drums (and occasional strings), Marching Band have distinguished themselves and earned the right to be called what we like to refer to as one of those “cacophonous” bands quickly gaining popularity (Anathallo, Margot & The Nuclear So and So’s, etc.) They also have a good understanding of vocal harmonies and intricate arrangements, making the album impossible not to enjoy. Watch out for them to make a huge leap of fame this coming year – they are fast becoming one of my favorite bands.

Enjoy the mp3s, and please please please buy the album!
